About Sanibel Island
Sanibel Island is a small crescent-shaped island nestled in the sandy waters of the Gulf of Mexico, near Fort Myers, Florida. Just a short drive from Southwest Regional Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers, once you arrive on the island, there is no reason to leave. Here are just a few of our favorite things to do on Sanibel Island.
Most mornings start with an early morning walk on the beach. Try as you might, you will likely end up doing the "Sanibel Stoop". The overnight tide brings in some of the most amazing sea shells and even frequent visitors to the beach can't help but stop and "stoop" to admire (and even collect) the morning offering of sea shells.
Make sure to stop by She Sells Sea Shells for a sampling of the many shells you will see on Sanibel Island.
Many days are spent on the property, enjoying all it has to offer - relaxing on the beach, playing in the ocean, swimming in the pool, playing shuffleboard or tennis, and even a refreshing afternoon nap at the condo.
Other days are spent exploring Sanibel Island - whether it's retail therapy at the many specialty shops, riding bikes on the 25 miles of paved trails, or a driving tour though the renowned J. N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge - there is no shortage of activities to fill your Sanibel days!
Many of our meals are served at Unit 103! You just can't beat a vacation, where you can choose to eat in or dine out. With the fully-equipped kitchen, we are able to stock all of our favorite foods and snacks, saving our family time and money. However, this is a vacation, and Sanibel Island offers many wonderful and different restaurant options.
One of our favorite breakfast/brunch spots is the Lighthouse Cafe. The atmosphere, friendly-service and exceptional food make this restaurant a "must" during any Sanibel Island vacation. Don't forget to call ahead for seating...but if you forget, this place is worth the short wait.
Cheeburger Cheeburger is a family favorite lunch spot, with their friendly staff, 50's diner-style atmosphere and delicious food. Customize your milkshake and build your perfect burger from their abundant list of options. Don't forget to bring your appetite!
For dinner, the Lazy Flamingo is an all-time favorite spot and a place we go to 2-3 times during each vacation on Sanibel. This fun, energetic, family-friendly hot spot serves the best "pub grub" on the island - fresh local seafood, homemade pasta dishes and conch soup, burgers, wings, and the best garlic bread with marinara sauce ever! You will feel like a local, after just one visit.
